Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival at the airport & transfer to Moshi. We’ll take you to Honey Badger Lodge, a very pleasant lodge just outside the busy center. Time to relax and enjoy the large swimming pool.

Day 2: Cycling at the Foot of Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up at 9 AM by the cycling guide for your ride through the last stretch of lowland forest that once covered a large part of Kilimanjaro’s southern plains along the Pangani River. The Rau Forest is now a protected area, and your visit contributes not only to its preservation but also to its further development! At the visitor center, you’ll be welcomed by the eloquent local guide Daniel, who will explain more about the forest and the local initiatives to protect it.

Your guide will then lead you through the forest, where you’ll discover colorful and numerous native birds, monkeys, butterflies & (sometimes giant) indigenous trees. Afterwards, you’ll cycle on to the rice fields bordering the forest. Along the way, you’ll pass local villages and get a glimpse of rural life in Tanzania.

After the bike ride, you’ll be treated to a local lunch, before returning to Honey Badger Lodge in the early afternoon. (Don’t like cycling? A beautiful walk is also possible.)

Day 3: Enduimet Wildlife Management Area – West Kilimanjaro

Enduimet Wildlife Management Area (don’t miss the video on our website!) is a unique region strongly committed to sustainable tourism by and for the Maasai, who live in harmony with the wildlife while herding their cattle. This area forms an important corridor for elephants, buffalo, giraffes, impala, zebras & wildebeest between Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania and Amboseli National Park in Kenya, world-famous for its elephants. Moreover, you can encounter a number of special species here that you won’t see in the parks. You’ll camp in the middle of nowhere at the foot of Kilimanjaro, where you’ll be welcomed by the friendly Seriamo, who doesn’t speak a word of English. Time for safari!

Day 4: From Enduimet to Manyara

From Chui campsite, it’s a drive towards the parks, crossing remote Enduimet with a game drive en route across the plains between Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru & Longido. The first two hours of the journey are spent on game drive.

You’ll circle around Mount Meru and then connect to a paved road leading to the Rift Valley (avoiding the city of Arusha). Eventually, when you catch sight of the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, you’ll also see Lake Manyara. You’ll overnight near the park boundary, halfway up the escarpment at Migombani, with its stunning view over the lake.

This transfer takes 5 to 6 hours depending on the number of stops along the way.

Day 5: Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is the least visited park in the North. What’s there to see? Plenty! But especially elephants & baobabs! And you don’t have to drive far to see a lot: there are countless loops around the central Tarangire River, not far from the park entrance, and this is where you’ll find the highest concentration of wildlife.

If you’d like to go a bit further, Silale Swamp is highly recommended. In this more remote yet easily accessible area, you’ll encounter very few other vehicles, even in high season! On a good day, you might even spot lions, leopards & occasionally even a cheetah.

Day 6–7: Serengeti National Park

Via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we head to the mythical Serengeti National Park – the ultimate reference in the safari world. The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word *Siringit*, which means “endless plains.” That just about sums it up. On these grasslands, larger than the whole of Flanders, you’ll find not only the 1.5 million wildebeest, gazelles, and zebras that make up the migration, but also unmatched numbers of lions, leopards, and cheetahs, often perched on rocky outcrops (*koppies*). Together they create the greatest wildlife show on earth, as the folks at National Geographic like to say. Overnight at Osinon Tented Camp (upgrade options: Sound of Silence, Siringit Serengeti Camp).

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

A long drive follows from Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). In the NCA, the Maasai tribe lives side by side with the wildlife.

About three hours from Serengeti lies the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater at 2,300 meters altitude, with breathtaking views from the rim.

In the afternoon, we go on a game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater has a large concentration of hyenas, lions, and even rhinos! In the evening, we leave the crater and stay overnight at Rhotia Valley Lodge.

Day 9: Amini Maasai Lodge

It’s a 3–4 hour drive towards Kilimanjaro and the beautiful ending of your trip. The Africa Amini Maasai Lodge is a phenomenal lodge with spectacular views of the Maasai plains between Kilimanjaro & Mt. Meru. In clear weather, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Kilimanjaro from the lodge. It is located in the middle of nowhere and is run by and for the local Maasai community. We’ve reserved a large family room and a double room for you.

Here, you’ll be immersed in the Maasai way of life in a unique & very comfortable way. Experience the tranquility, culture & adventure. The food—Western meets local traditions & ingredients—is excellent. You can also choose to join one of the activities offered.
