Of course, we want to give you the very best safari experience! These tips can help you make the most of it:
First and foremost: be flexible and open-minded. The animals you’re looking for are, of course, wild animals; that’s what makes every safari unique and unpredictable. Sometimes you’ll see only a few animals, sometimes a great many. Drives may also take longer than expected due to poor road conditions, a flat tire (pancha), the weather, or simply because you took longer breaks or made a detour in search of more wildlife. Your guide may suggest changing the program if he receives new information from colleagues. So don’t cling too tightly to the schedule—discuss and adapt together with your guide.
Ask questions. Our guides know a lot about Tanzania, its culture, and the animals and their behavior. Don’t hesitate to ask for more information—you’ll learn so much! And if your guide doesn’t know the answer (rarely!), look it up together in the lodge in the evening or at the end of your safari.
Ask the guide to stop. See something interesting, maybe something in the distance, or simply want to photograph a giraffe for the tenth time? Don’t hesitate to ask for another stop—your guide will be more than happy to make sure you have the best experience!
Follow the national park rules and your guide’s advice. Stay inside the vehicle during the safari, especially in areas with tall grass. Keep quiet when close to animals, so as not to disturb them or other visitors. Keep your hands and camera inside the car, especially near lions and other big cats.
Take plenty of photos. Even if it means lots of sorting later, the more pictures you take, the greater your chances of capturing that “perfect shot”! You can review some photos in the evening, but don’t forget—you’ll only really see the quality on a larger screen.
